I was one of the lucky ones- only without power and communications for five plus days. Many family members and friends hit hard by Hurricane (or Superstorm or Frankenstorm) Sandy, were not. In some cases, they lost everything.
During the isolation of the power outage, this song was written in response to the resiliency of everyone around me despite their setbacks and hardships. Rather than simply writing a feel good tune, I instead attempted to make it a more personal statement by imagining myself in their position, and writing from that perspective.
When my power came back up I was still without Internet and phone, virtually cut off from the outside world. I had a computer so I fired up the home studio and got to work on what was originally intended to be a gift to my family and close friends. As the song was shared, it seemed to be resonating with people.
Although I've really appreciated the kind words and requests for copies thus far that have lead up to this, my intention is to use the song through raising funds, raising hope, and raising spirits as a tool to help those that inspired it, keeping the spotlight focused on them.
A higher level effort such as this is but one way to help. Direct involvement on the ground in your community (or by "adopting" one) is equally as important, especially over the long haul.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, and demonstrating that we truly are not alone.
